His numbers were down because he missed three games with a knee injury, but he still earned all-state honors and is one of the area's most coveted prospects. Had 43 tackles and three interceptions. In the fourth in a series of five Q & A's with the county's top recruits, we asked Phillips about various aspects of the recruiting process.Q: What schools did you make official visits to? A: North Carolina State, South Florida, Miami, Florida, Florida State. All of the visits went smooth for me.Q: Have you made a commitment? Is so, where and how sure are you that you will sign there Wednesday? If not, do you care to give your decision now?A: Yes, Miami. I'm still thinking about my decision. I wanted to take the rest of my visits, so that I would know for sure that Miami is where I wanted to go. I'm still not sure. I'm sure I'll have something decided by Wednesday.Q: Did you travel out of state? If so, what did you think of the cold weather?A: Yes, I really didn't like the cold weather. It kind of turned me away from certain schools. You just don't want to be around it.Q: What was the biggest surprise about the recruiting process?A: I really don't know. I'd say that really nothing surprised me. Everything kind of went how I expected it to go.Q: What was the most impressive pitch?A: I think the thing that impressed me the most was the respect that the schools gave me. They showed a lot of respect once you got there, and it really seemed like they wanted you to come to school there.Q: What was your best experience?A: I'm not really sure. But Miami was great. I went to a poetry thing on campus with [cornerback] Kelly Jennings. Most guys will take you to a club, and I thought it was kind of cool that he took me somewhere like that.Q: What negative comments were made about schools on your lists?A: Nothing really. Just my family trying to give me advice. That's all. But this is my decision, and I think I'm going to make the best one for myself.Q: What question did you most want answered during the process?A: I just wanted to know how soon I would play because I want to be out there on the field. I'm not expecting to be out there during my first year, but I ask them where do they see me playing in my second year.Coming upWednesday: Antone Smith, Pahokee http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/highschool/sfl-phillips01feb01,0,7470314.story?coll=sfla-highschool-headlines
