So the kid took free stuff and decided to go to another school?  Classy.

In the ESPN 30 for 30 piece on SMU it looks like that happened all the time.

Are there any repercussions for him if this all turns out true?

I'm pretty sure he would be ineligible for taking improper benefits.

Yes but does it matter that he signed with UCF instead of UM? Does the ineligibility follow to the second school?

If it does UCF is  ******.... There's actually a picture showing Godfrey with the guy in his suite during his senior year of HS.

Illegal benefits are illegal benefits because all potential recruits are considered amateur athletes and any improper benefits received are against NCAA regs.

What are the penalties?

Suspension or loss of eligibility, repaying the value of the items to charity are the usual penalties.

IMO, he'll be fine and overlooked in the end since he never actually went to the school that offered him illegal benefits. If anyone is going to be hurt by this, it's Marve and his eligibility at Purdue, since he actually went to Miami. I'm pretty sure there is a bylaw on eligibility effects of recruiting violations that states this.

And if they trace it back to Plant... which I bet they will (that guy is SHADY).... Plant will be looking for a new football coach.

One blurb I read somewhere named Weiner, Marve, and Charles as all being with Shapiro somewhere ... his mansion, maybe.

i wonder if this is why USF dropped him.

Don't kid yourself.  USF wanted him badly and lost out.  It happens.  Don't start looking like the deluded Miami clowns around here.

Godfrey almost came here.  :o And USF tried to get Marve to transfer here, after we wiffed on him out of high school. Man, recruiting is a dirty, dirty game.

I'm thankful to fate on both accounts.

The kid made a wise choice ... at least as far as playing time goes, which was obviously a big part of his decision.
