Defensive coordinator Wally Burnham had held that honor, making $220,000 under Jim Leavitt in 2008. Snyder kept USF's defense ranked among the nation's best, ranking 17th in the country in total defense and 22nd in scoring defense despite having four starters taken in the NFL Draft. All nine assistant coaches returned for Holtz's second season, and all received raises from their 2010-11 salaries, with the other eight earning raises between $5,000 and $15,000.The salary figures were released in response to a public records request filed by the Times last month. Under Holtz's contract, his pool for assistants increased from $1.55 million in his first season to $1.65 million this year and $1.75 million in 2012. The nine full-time assistants collectively got a $120,000 raise, meaning Holtz has $50,000 to supplement other staff positions, down from $70,000 last year. The three assistant coaches carried over from Jim Leavitt's 2009 staff remain the lowest-paid assistants, but also got larger raises this year -- defensive tackles coach Kevin Patrick and tight ends coach Larry Scott, two of the staff's top recruiters, each earned $15,000 raises to $135,000, while receivers coach Phil McGeoghan got a $10,000 raise to $90,000.Offensive coordinator Todd Fitch earned a $10,000 raise to $220,000, and four other assistants who came in with Holtz got $5,000 raises: defensive backs coach Rick Smith ($205,000), defensive ends coach Vernon Hargreaves ($190,000), quarterbacks coach Peter Vaas ($190,000) and offensive line coach Steve Shankweiler ($175,000).USF's pool for assistant football coaches has come a long way since the Bulls joined the Big East in 2005 -- the total pool for nine assistants that year was $690,000, less than half what Holtz's staff made in 2010. The highest-paid assistant in 2005, Rick Kravitz, made $104,000, which would rank him next-to-last on the current staff.Posted by Greg Auman at 9:31:15 pm on August 16, 2011 http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bulls/content/snyder-gets-biggest-raise-among-holtz-assistants

It is disheartening to see Skip continuing and expanding the large difference between previous staff and the staff he brought with him after last year and with the success these guys have had on the recruiting trails. I don't understand his approach here but it seems insulting.

I don't exactly feel bad for the guys making 135k either. They got 15k raises, and they will get raises next year as well.

Patrick has like 4 years of BCS Coaching Experience, Larry Scott: 5? and Phil McGoeghan: 3 Those guys don't have great resumes as of yet. So really they're not underpaid. If anyone is underpaid on that staff its Coach Shankweiler...he has **** year 30 years of coaching experience

I don't know how we compare to all other BCS schools as far as money is concerned but we sure aren't the bottom like we were in 2005. Makes it even more impressive what Leavitt did with no money. I hope Skip can keep the staff togeather for at least one more year because this year should be good with next year looking like a TCU,WV and USF fighting for the top spot.

Patrick and Scott are underpaid. Period.Based on what the staff hold overs are making guys like Smith and Hargreaves are probably overpaid.
