MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Dennis Dodd of CBSSports.com is reporting that two former WVU head coaches, Rich Rodriguez and Bill Stewart, have been charged with “failure to monitor†the Mountaineers program.

According to Dodd, West Virginia University has self-imposed a two-year probation and a reduction of scholarships by three.

What does "two-year probation" mean? No bowl games? Even if they win all their games? Huh?

"Luck points out that the probation does not impact the team's post-season bowl eligibility or ability to compete for conference and national titles. It will instead make it so the university must complete annual reports over the two-year period and will undoubtedly be under close watch by the NCAA. "

WVU is lucky Ohio State is on the hot seat that is why they are getting away from harsher penalties.

i disagree.  the WVU penalties are no different than basically what happened to michigan, which was resolved before sweatergate.  and michigan basically had nothing major happen as far as penalties go.  the issues at WVU arey no where near the level of what was going on in Columbus, and IMO would have been what was self imposed by WVU anyway.

being on probation basically means that if any sort of violation occurs during the probationary period would lead to severe penalties.
