The commentators said the total attendance tonight was over 1k. I'm really impressed as it seems people are starting to warm up to the ladies. I'll be there Sunday rooting them on to victory.

GO BULLS!

First game in a month.  Hope people realize that they are a special group of girls.  First team that makes it to the Big Dance in a long time (both men and women)

Something tells me that Cincy isn't going to do any better than Louisville did against the Lady Basket Bulls.  ;D

Bearcats Drop C-USA Opener

Cold shooting and lack of rebounding dooms UC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Carmen Guzman and Crystal McFadden each scored 15 points as UAB knocked off Cincinnati in each teams' C-USA opener tonight at Bartow Arena. The Bearcats fall to 5-8 (0-1 C-USA) on the season as UAB improves to 4-10 (1-0 C-USA).

UC jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead following an Ashley Brown jumper at the 17:14 mark of the first half. But UAB answered with a 13-2 run, taking a lead it would never relinquish.

An 8-0 UAB run put the Blazers up, 23-14, with 5:28 left in the stanza. UC answered with its own 11-3 run to cut the lead to two before a jumper at the first half buzzer by UAB's Lauren Brittingham sent the Blazers to the locker room with a 30-26 lead.

Cincinnati was twice able to cut the UAB lead to two early in the second half, but the Bearcats were outscored, 33-19, in the period to drop thier third straight contest.

"We don't hit open shots, we don't get easy baskets off offensive rebounds and fastbreaks and slowly but surely out defense whittles down and becomes nonexistent," UC head coach Laurie Pirtle said. "Those are bad ingredients and they lead to 45 points."

UC shot only .353 for the game and were outrebounded, 41-29. UAB grabbed 19 offensive rebounds to UC's 13, leading to a 23-7 edge in second-chance points for the Blazers.

Anne Stephens led UC with 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting and registered three blocks. Karen Twehues scored seven, but shot just 3-for-12, including 1-for-6 from beyond the arc.

The Bearcats recorded a season-high eight blocked shots, the second-highest total in school history.

Freshman Emy Ogide made her first career start, and played well before getting into foul trouble. She finished with four points, two rebounds and two blocks in 12 minutes of action before fouling out late in the second half.

UC will travel to USF for a conference game with the Bulls on Sunday, Jan. 9. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.

USF Ends Louisville's Dominance

Published: Jan 9, 2005

TAMPA - The South Florida and Louisville women's basketball programs have gone through many changes the past 13 years. They've been league foes in the Metro Conference, Conference USA and next year jump to the Big East.

The biggest change, however, was what the scoreboard read after Friday's C-USA opener at the Sun Dome.

In front of a crowd of 1,346, USF beat the Cardinals for the first time in 18 meetings, 67-59.

``We briefly talked about [the streak],'' Bulls coach Jose Fernandez said. ``I told the team we had a chance to put the past behind us. Hopefully [beating Louisville] will be one of many more firsts this season.''

Anedra Gilmore scored a career-high 22 points to lead three Bulls in double figures. Jessica Dickson chipped in 16 and Chanae Early had 15.

USF (11-4) never trailed and seized control early, jumping to an 18-4 lead.

``We always talk about coming out with intensity, and we did a good job [Friday],'' Gilmore said.

USF's Nalini Miller strained her left hamstring and Ezria Parsons suffered a concussion in the second half. Neither player returned and their status for Sunday's game vs. Cincinnati wasn't immediately known.

Maybe we could find a Seminole Indian medicine man who can take away the curse.  :-/

The crowd was incredible and I dont think Cincy will be a tough team but we do want revenge bc they knocked us out of the conference tourny last season...Lets just hope Nalini and Sharon get better soon bc we need their height inside

It looks right now like Nalini will be out for awhile.  :-/

Bulls Center Nalini Miller injured her left hamstring midway through the first half, then strained it early in the second. She was on crutches and could miss significant time. Forward and leading rebounder Ezria Parsons sustained a concussion with 6:06 left when the back of her head hit the hardwood.
