USF's Genshaft elected as chair of NCAA board

USF President Judy Genshaft, who has represented the Big East on the NCAA Board of Directors since last year, has been elected as chair of that influential 18-member group for the upcoming school year.

Genshaft, USF's president for the past 10 years, was elected as chair on Thursday and will serve in that capacity until April. Her term on the Board of Directors runs through 2013. This position is another prominent national role for Genshaft, who has also served as chair of the American Council on Education.

The Times' Richard Danielson chronicled Genshaft's first decade at USF in this story last month, and she sat down with the Times for a Q&A last summer about her role on the NCAA board and other important issues.

-- One more piece of good news for USF -- the university has been rated as a "Tier 1" university in the newest Best Colleges rankings by U.S. News and World Report. USF is also listed as one of 28 "up and coming" national universities in this year's rankings.

Great President indeed. We need a bust of her on campus when her career is over. Really has turned this "commuter school" to a national class university

And she's so approachable.  When she speaks with students and faculty you can tell she's listening and giving them an honest hearing.  She's one of the best university presidents out there.  So much has been accomplished on her watch.  When she does leave at some point there will be big shoes to fill.

She is indeed very approachable.  I hope she is our president for a long time. 

The next time there is talk of BCS reshuffling, we'll have a little extra help in our corner.

It's a great position and accomplishment.

However, we'll need to make sure we stay clean, as the scrutinizing eye will be on us and any large issues will reflect badly on her. I think Holtz and Heath are pretty good at keeping the programs compliant though.
