There is some talk that we are talking to you guys about playing the first game in the new stadium next year.  Do you have a spot available on your schedule?  That would be fun.

We do, though we'd likely want a return game maybe in 2012 as we've got openings in both schedules.

ok this is getting ridiculous.. we need a stadium, especially if FAU is getting one.

We can put where the soccer field is.  Put a track on it and make it multipurpose for track & field, soccer, and football.. 3 in one, everybody wins

Why would you want to downgrade to a small, aluminum stadium?

The university should save its pennies for an OC concrete stadium. That aluminum **** in garbage. Two of the stadiums i've enjoyed over the past few season were Auburn, NC State and Rutgers. They were all smaller concrete stadiums, and then they were added on to as time has gone on.

The powers that be want to build it the right way. Rather than having to "mortgage the house" with a ton of bonds, I think they're saving duckets and to build a facility the right way. For now, Ray Jay is a recruiting tool and provides great amenities. I could see an on-campus stadium at sometime in the future, and, my hunch is that it'll be located where the University Mall currently sits. All speculation, of course.

Good for them.

Lockart Stadium was home to the defunct NASL Ft Lauderdale Strikers soccer team, and has been a home to many of the 6A high schools in Broward County.  The trip from Boca Raton to Ft Lauderdale is just too far, which is probably why their attendance is lower than it should be.

FAU has been more successful than FIU, so they should be competitive in the near future with a real home field.

Tuesday’s Daily Briefing: FAU hoping to play USF in first game at new stadium

By Marcus Nelson

With all due respect to the juggernaut that is FIU football, FAU badly needs a competitive rivalry.

Thanks to domination by the Owls in the Shula Bowl which makes for a boring rivalry, FAU officials are trying to spark one up with USF - the team FAU will face on Saturday.

That’s a reason why USF is the leader to face FAU in the first game of the Owls’ new stadium on Sept. 17 next season, according to FAU officials.

Of course, that’s provided the stadium will be up and running by then.FAU AD Craig Angelos will have a much better idea on that possibility later this week after meeting with construction officials.

The first game at the 30,000-seat new stadium will likely be a sell-out regardless of the opponent, but if it’s USF, there will be some incentive for FAU fans to gobble up tickets before the Bulls fans do, creating a hard sell-out.

USF is a natural candidate for the first visiting team to play on campus. The 2007 game between USF and FAU was very competitive and anyone that was there will remember the many Bulls fans who made the trip to Fort Lauderdale.

I hope those USF fans get the chance to do it again.

I've got a hunch that could change this year... although FIU is 0-3, they've been more than competitive in 3 losses to BCS teams.

FAU officials are trying to spark one up with USF - the team FAU will face on Saturday.

I wouldn't mind some more series with FAU but let's hold off the rivalry talk ....
