Seantrel Henderson to enroll at UMDad says top prospect picks Hurricanes after being released from USC

Offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson, the nation's top football recruit, will attend the University of Miami this fall.

Henderson's father, Sean, said Friday that his son will enroll at UM after originally signing with USC. Henderson is expected on campus Aug. 3. Preseason camp begins Aug. 5.

"It came down to the severity of the USC sanctions,'' Sean Henderson told the Sun Sentinel. "It probably would have been a tougher decision [on National Signing Day] if Miami had talked to us earlier in the recruiting process. We've been talking with [offensive line] coach Jeff Stoutland, and they seem pretty happy about all this.''

The 6-foot-8, 340-pound Henderson, who played at Cretin-Derham (Minn.) Hall, was released from his national letter-of-intent Tuesday. The Hurricanes were among his finalists on National Signing Day and re-emerged once USC was hit with NCAA sanctions last month. The penalties stem from an investigation that found former tailback Reggie Bush received improper benefits.

Henderson, who was the USA Today national player of the year, is likely to compete for immediate playing time. With senior Orlando Franklin at left tackle, he will compete with Ben Jones and Jermaine Johnson for the starting spot on the right side.

Henderson is the second high-profile recruit to become a late addition to the 2010 class. In March, cornerback Latwan Anderson chose UM after initially planning to attend West Virginia.
