I agree...

He is under the assumption that the basketball tv contract will some how keep the BEast safe...  :Duh

I would not expect any big moves out of the BEast to prevent a raid, they are just as clueless as they were back when the ACC took Miami, VT, and BC.

unfortunately expanding will only include conf usa teams: ucf, ecu, memphis.  Unless they can increase $$$$ significantly acc teams coming back to the BE is a pipe dream.

you know you are clueless when expansion talks are going on because of football, and you stand on your soapbox and tout basketball

the BE has always been a basketball conference. I'm not sure why you guys think they should change now. There isn't anything they can do to keep programs from leaving anyway. There is way more money in the big ten, acc, etc. Rutgers won't stay just because they add UCF or ECU.

what do you think he can do?  His hands are tied, I don't know why so many people are clueless to the fact the non-football programs rule the roost in the BE.  They refuse to expand for football, they refuse to add a 'football only' member, and they refuse to expand past 16 overall teams.  The BE has no real proactive recourse in terms of adding teams.

The best Marinatto can do is bolster economics, improve visibility, and try to be prepared once a move happens by the B10 if it affects the BE.  So how is he clueless if that's his only recourse?

And by the way, the hoops schools are not fools.  They don't care about football, at this point they see the success they have with hoops, they see the success the A-10 has had with hoops and are not interested in passing a life line to help football only to watch it deteriorate their hoops programs.

Agreed, Marinatto has no business running the BE. I'm hoping Tags can bring all his knowlege, contacts and ability to help save/improve the league. I think two teams will be added in all sports (UCF and Temple). While not a fan of either, based on their markets they are the best the BE can do at this point. The best thing USF can do is win football games and dominate the BE. It will make the league stronger if it stays intact or make USF more attractive to another conference if it splits. USF also needs to raise the academics to Tier 1 and I have heard there is a plan in place. If BE can get Network or a partner (NFL Network is floating around the message boards), that will help keep the BE intact as well. This is where Tags can help save the day and broker the deal.

Until the BE makes more money in football revenue, there's nothing anyone can do. If they were smart, they'd give the boot to DePaul and add a member who plays D-1 football, which would keep the hoops side to 16 and bring the football side to 9...and if Rutgers leaves, we won't be scrambling.
