I dont' know the answer, but i do remember a Boston team in the early 90s under Joe Morgan running off quite an impressive streak.  They called it "Morgan Magic"  They ran of a 19 and 1 streak... probably not correct though.

Didn't the old NYGiants in the 19teens run off 26 in a row?  i guess that isn't modern enough.

1982 Braves with 13 wins.  Longest losing streak to start a season 1988 Orioles with a mind boggling 21 straight losses.

Al record for longest winning streak to start season Oakland A's with 11 in 1981.
