[b]Grothe sets record[/b]
South Florida quarterback Matt Grothe produced 261 yards of offense (208 passing, 53 rushing) in his team's 35-13 victory at Western Kentucky on Saturday and in the process became the Big East's career leader in total yards. The senior now has 10,702. He surpassed West Virginia's Pat White, who departed after last season with 10,529.
"That's really remarkable when you think of all the great quarterbacks in the Big East over the years," USF coach Jim Leavitt said. "It just speaks volumes about Matt. He's a great leader and competitor. I think everybody has a lot of respect for Pat White and what he did, and for Matt Grothe to surpass that record says an awful lot about Matt."
With 10 games still remaining in the regular season. Grothe could pad the record by several thousand yards if he stays healthy.
