I think our game was sloppy.  Quite honestly we did not look like a great team, but we usually start off each season this way so there is definitely hope.  But there is much to work on.

I think our two concerns should be as follows.

Special Teams.  We let up lots of yards on numerous plays yesterday.  But the biggest issue on ST's is our kicking of field goals.  I love Alvarado as a punter, and his kickoffs were great, but he just isn't very accurate on FG's.  Consider if he had made those two FG's it would have been 41 - 13 which is more like the score you would have wanted to see.

Secondly, I think we are still weak on reading the run and stopping fast backs.  There is no way that RB (#3) should ahve continually gotten 5 -- 7 yards on us yesterday like he did.  I don't care if it is Rutgers, or WKU, we cannot stop these backs and haven't for years.

Not to say there are not other things we should be concerned with, but those two stood out to me.

- team "finesse"

(in other words, playing a clean, well organized, complete game. minimize penalties and play with some attitude and effort.)

- run defense

(i chose this over field goals, special teams, or turnovers because all those are minimized by default if you dont give up 1st down after 1st down with poor run defense)

To be fair, Alverado's two missed field goals were straight as an arrow, they just happened to be lined up on the left hash. ;D

Linebackers- look like they are missing assignments and we are letting too many long plays with missed tackels.

Grothe and play calling-doesn't look like he can get into a groove and misses too many easy passes

Kicking game- Nuff said; you can't be a FBS team and have the problems we have in the kicking game.

RB's- Too inexperienced

For all those who are concerned about run defense. Please consider that both Wofford and Western Kentucky only scored a total of 20 points. 2 touchdowns and 2 field goals. Although the run defense "looks" bad take into consideration these are not the types of offense USF will see for the majority of the year.

If Wofford and WKU can run that easily on the Bulls, what do you think UConn, Miami or Rutgers will do?  Plenty of time to clean it up.  Not time to give up on the season.  But that's the area I'd work on the most in practice and watching film.

Look back at the 07 season FAU ran 35 times for 152 yards a team like Auburn is going to

run like crazy on us then I would guess?

Auburn ran 35 times for 125 yards that same season.

Or even better one of the best running teams in the nation WVU ran 40 times for 139 yards, I guess FAU has a better running game ???

Not worried this team always plays to the level of the other team
