I really wish WKU and USF would get a long standing series in both sports going. The two schools have really had some fantastic games when we were both in "The Belt" together. My cousin and I would travel to Tampa for the basketball games. One year after WKU had beaten Louisville we traveled to Tampa ranked in the top 25 and lost to USF in front of a sold out arena.

USF had one of my all time favorite BBall players in "The Belt", Charley Bradley. He had the highest arc on the ball I have every seen and always gave WKU problems.

Would be a win, win for both programs.

USF has nothing to gain from a football series with Western Kentucky, and to suggest otherwise is absurd. I know why USF is traveling to Bowling Green, but it's out of unfortunate necessity. It's not because it's a benefit to the program.

I'm trying to remember the name of a pretty big guy you had back in the Sun Belt days...

Tellis Frank was a Lottery Pick, Kannard Johnson was a 2nd rounder and Clarence Martin was picked in the 3rd round. Those were our big guys on the 1986 team.

And USF might make less of it in a home-and-home series with Western Kentucky than the team would traveling to play an SEC or Big XII school for one game and replacing the subsequent home game with another FCS opponent. Maybe not, but USF certainly isn't gaining revenue from this series, only reducing expenses. Woolard's scheduling philosophy combined with the rising prices of payday games make this kind of road trip inevitable. That doesn't mean USF would benefit from a long-term football series with the Hilltoppers.

And a win over WKU is less impressive than the win over Wofford was. If the Tennessee game was any indication, Wofford would destroy WKU.

ease up, buddy. I hope you realize these games are less about money and more about giving a helping hand to a program that scheduled us for our first 4 years. Remember those lean years when even UCF wouldn't schedule us because we weren't beneficial to them. It's because of programs like WKU that we are where we are today. Show some respect.

If there was a Sun Belt team I'd like us to put on the schedule in football and other sports, let it be South Alabama. Mobile has really embraced this start up and it won't be long until they are pretty decent. Good talent base here and they have $$$ in their alumni base bc they all stay HOME after graduating. Plus, they always have a pretty solid basketball and baseball program. Alot more folks would eventually make a South Alabama game in Mobile, AL than a game in kentucky. Plus, they get more folks here for the Alabama-Miss. HS all star game than WKU probably will have at most of their games.

PS-this game with WKU was the right thing to do. If everything in life is only about money, it's a sad existence...

I went to the Tenn game and the Toppers did not play very well. in front of 100,000 people. This was the first outing with a new Offensive Cord. and Defensive Cord. and 57% of our team are Redshirt Freshman and Soph. Tenn. coach also played "Run up the score" as well. We played to a 0-0 score in the 1st qtr then, they scored on a long play, then we fumbled on the 12 yard line and it snowballed. UT was up 28-0 and called 3 time outs with 45 second until the half to try and score again. At the beginning of the 4th qtr they were up 35-7 and played their starters until the very end winning 63-7. They even threw a pass with a minute left in the game and never down the ball on the last play, but tried to run it in to make it 69-7. No class.

I fully expect that the toppers will play much better this second game at home and it will be closer than the Wofford game.

First of all, I'm not the one who said money was the driving factor. In fact, I said it couldn't be. I also said I understand why USF is traveling to Bowling Green. This is not the same as saying a series of any sort in football is a good idea. Series means more than once.

Second, USF would be where it is today regardless of whether it had ever played Western Kentucky in football. It is an excellent location and an outstanding head coach that has brought USF to the brink of a BCS bowl game in a staggeringly fast fashion. I'm not upset that USF is playing this game, I'm just saying this comment from the WKU poster:

Would be a win, win for both programs.

... is absolutely false, as it relates to any further trips by the USF football team to Bowling Green, Kentucky. If WKU wants to come to Tampa every year, then hey, let's talk.

It's the same reason FSU and UF wouldn't schedule USF for so long, minus the fear of losing.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
