Anyone else concerned about the two break aways that took place Saturday night?

Not to be a downer but the two break aways really concerned me Saturday night.  Last time I checked when a BCS runner breaks away you do not very often catch them from behind and they also do not fumble.  Was it simply misdirection, blown schemes, or missed assignments on those two runs?  I am hopeful that these are correctable mistakes, but if those backs had BCS speed we might still be chasing them.  Other than that I thought we played okay, I would give us a C+ for overall performance.

This is all part of the master plan to catch FSU off guard...  ;)

We won't see this kind of offense when we play the big boy opponents so i wouldn't be too worried about it.  Wofford's offense exploited some blown assignments and got some big gains out of them but we won't see a wing bone team like them but with BCS athletes so we should be ok.  Their offense did what it was designed to do on those plays make up for a lack of size and athleticism by forcing the D to play it's assignments or get gashed.

A few big plays like Wofford had are almost unavoidable given the type of offense they run. The game went almost exactly how I expected, with USF pulling away late in the half and putting the game away in the third quarter. It is difficult to run up the score when you are only using a small portion of your playbook and constantly moving in and out different personnel. I expect more of the same over the next two weeks as we prepare for FSU. The nice thing is that CSU is so bad that we can spend two full weeks preparing for the Noles, in addition to all of the time during the summer that we have already committed to the game.

Aside from the breakaways, Wofford chewed up a lot of time.  They had the ball almost 32 minutes to USF's 28.

I think a lot of people look at the 40-7 score and think it was close - hell the TV announcers thought it was close through the first half.  Any clear thinking viewer could see it was only close due to the first quarter only having two full offensive possessions and the fact the Bulls then proceeded to turn it over.

I'm not worried at all.  However, I didn't expect to be.  I think we looked better Saturday than in some previous season openers.

FIRST-- this is not directed at anyone in particular-- so don't bother trying to defend a position or assume some kind of attack.

A handful of positive plays for the other team-- whoever they may be-- is no indicator that we are flawed. It's football-- it happens. If you don't give up on a play, you can still get a turnover as we saw.

personally, I have never understood why fans-- especially ones who are veterans of many season-- get all up in arms over the results or even the play in these warm up type games. I'm not saying we are great but jeez-- we have a 6 page thread about a SINGLE INTERCEPTION (the only one in the game). That happens just about every season at the beginning. You cannot accurately interpolate what to expect from this game or even the next two-- short of us somehow losing to one of these teams.

As for FSU-- I get a kick out of everyone saying how great that game was. I guess from a pure entertainment level, with all the scoring, one might assume FSU has this awesome offense. What about their defense? Or Miami's? I saw some serious flaws in both. It is entirely possible that FSU comes into our game 1-2 and Miami may start out 1-4 with their brutal schedule. Perhaps if that pans out, cooler heads will stop worrying about other teams and just enjoy the season as it plays out.

The only thing I am concerned about right now is our next opponent and seeing if we have adequately reloaded at some very key positions. We probably won't know for sure until after the FSU game. be patient, try not to make too many assumptions, and don't get upset if we don't have some outstanding season this year. We are very young right now save for a few areas.

Agreed. This game was entertaining, but there were tons of blown assignments, and it's not like any of them were going up against a Wingbone offense. It made me wonder whether these were 2 good teams just goin at it, or were they 2 sub par teams taking advantage of mistakes on both sides. Only time will tell.
