It's pretty retarded that students can be forced into living on campus for any reason.

It's all some big endeavor by the school to get in the elite status of universities. I forget what the organization is now, but that's the idea.

New Policy Beginning Fall 2009

The University of South Florida is committed to providing all of its students with a comprehensive educational experience. There are numerous educational and social benefits for first year students living in the residence halls that may not be realized by those living off campus. Studies show that on-campus residents are retained at higher levels, graduate more quickly, and develop more of a sense of connection to the university.

With this understanding, USF will require all first year students to live on campus their first year beginning in the Fall of 2009.

•Students enrolling for the Summer or Fall 2009 semester will be required to live on campus for the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 semesters.

• Students enrolling for the Spring 2010 semester will be required to live on campus for the Spring 2010 semester.

• Students enrolling for the Summer 2010 semester will be required to live on campus for the Summer 2010, Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 semesters.

Exemptions will be considered for:

• Students who provide documentation of their intent to live in the principal residence of a parent or legal guardian residing in Hillsborough, Pasco, or Pinellas county.

• Students who reach the age of 21 prior to the first day of classes of their first term of enrollment.

• Students who provide evidence of compelling individual circumstances.

I'm all for students living in the dorms, while I agree that it makes for a better experience, I don't think it should be the only experience.

(1) Like paying more money to the school for crappier living space than to other apartment's with more amenities.

(2) this better be easy to get

The key reason USF is pushing this is they feel it will increase 5 year graduation rates, which is a big part of how USF is judged by state education officials.

Good for you.  I wish I would have been more involved and lived on or near campus.  I basically went to school and drove home right after and went to work.  Didn't get involved really in anything except going to football games with friends that weren't even students.  Learn from others' mistakes, you only get to live your college years once (well most of us anyway)!

This was me, too.  I never even went to a true "college party" until after I graduated.  Soak in the time, have fun, be safe and remember to attend EVERY athletic event that you can!

Welcome to your home away from home. Enjoy your time here and take advantage of any programs you can. There is a good amount of extra curricular activities to become involved with. Pick them wisely and always work to better yourself in what you do.
