How would you rebuild USF basketball?

College basketball is strange beast; it looks easy to build a winner but not so easy.

I suppose it starts with exposure and a strong conference to bring in the recruits. We have that now (exposure). C-USA was pretty good but only the top programs could pull in the big fish. How many players from Charlotte, UAB, and Tulane have made it to the NBA recently?

Grades, injuries, problems.... they all can turn a team into a few dudes real quick. Good grief, we've had our share of bad luck.

Coaching: There are a lot of coaches, but not many are in positions with all the chips in place (recruits, support, funding, etc.). And it takes a good coach to make things happen -to do more than the talent allows. To be honest, I don't know what Coach Mac is capable of yet. He hasn't had a full team and hasn't run things the way he wants it. He needs time.

So, what needs to be in place for us to not get killed in the new Big East night in and night out?

Realistically, we are a rebuilding team heading into the most powerful college basketball conference ever... I just don't want us to come into the new conference on our back.

Lets start the season with a string of unwinable games and then claim a moral victory when we can keep the game within 20

I understand your feelings about UCF, but he was asking a legitimate question.

I think Coach Mac is on the right path. With the move to the NBE, we can boost our (USF) name in the North-East and get some talent.

What kid fron NYC/NJ/PA, etc would not want to got to school down here then play against their peers back home?

Also, I think the move to the NBE will obviously boost attendance. Hopefully, with some talent rolling in we can get the Sun Dome rockin again like it was back in the Dobras/Alexander days.

In the future, I can also see some big time games being played at the Ice Palace...err....St. Pete Times Forum. Dont forget we'll have the ACC tourney here in 2005, I think.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
