MEN’S SOCCER HEADS NORTH TO START BIG EAST PLAY

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida men’s soccer team will head north to begin BIG EAST play against the Hoyas of Georgetown on Sept. 19 at 3 p.m., then travel to Seton Hall to face the Pirates on Sept. 21 at 1 p.m.

“I am excited for this weekend,” said USF head coach, George Kiefer. “We will be facing two good teams in the BIG EAST. Georgetown is having a good year so far and Seton Hall is always a good game for us. Competing in the BIG EAST is always a competitive, fun schedule.”

The University of South Florida men’s soccer team played their home opener last Saturday with a victory against FIU. Senior Jordan Seabrook and junior Andre Mittoo each put one in the back of the goal as the Bulls defeated the Panthers 2-1. Sophomore Jeff Attinella got the start for the Bulls in net, registered six saves. Jordan Seabrook leads the team with two goals for the season, following by Zak Boggs, Bernardo Anor and Mittoo with one apiece.

Mittoo was named to the National Team of the Week by College Soccer News for his performance in the contest against FIU.

This is the fourth meeting between the Georgetown and USF, with the Bulls leading the series 2-1-0. The last contest between these two teams took place on Nov. 11, 2007 at the USF Soccer Stadium where the Bulls came out on top 4-0.

The Hoyas enter the game 5-1-0 and 0-1-0 in the BIG EAST. Georgetown is lead by Chandler Diggs and Peter Grasso, who each have scored two goals apiece. Between goalies Matthew Brutto and Mark Wilbur, the Hoyas have only allowed one goal to be scored.

On Sunday, the Bulls will face the Pirates in the third meeting between the teams, with USF leading the series 2-0-0. The last match took place on Oct. 25, 2006 at the BIG EAST Conference Tournament where the Bulls came out on top 5-1.

Seton Hall comes into the Friday games, 4-2-0 and 0-0-0 in the BIG EAST. The Pirates are led by Samuel Petrone who has scored eight goals for Seton Hall this year.
