Screw ND!  They should oust the rest of Notre Dam athletics and extend the olive branch to PSU.

you guys...the HUGE cash cow that is ND is not going anywhere in the big east.  they will always be allowed to keep their non-football teams in the big east and they will never join a conference in football.

I was in college in the late 80's and I remember all this - article is pretty spot on from what I remember as all the buzz and what not in sports articles and discussions from that timeframe, but Syracuse was pretty ambivalent too about giving up the BE basketball cash cow for an all sports conference. 

But Pitt at the time did behave like that, would not budge, and some of its administration actually took glee in what they thought was their ability to screw over two major rivals and leave them sitting out in the cold (PSU & WVU).

If ever there were a time for ND to get into the BE it would be now.  I know it's probably never going to happen but with as bad as ND is, that kind of schedule is going to make their comeback very very tough.  The best bet for the Irish to reclaim their glory, so to speak, is by playing a BE schedule.  Both sides would get something out of it this time.
