Redshirt B.J. and put a converted safety at third string, like Gachette.

thanks coach but we've stated our reasons quite reasonably. Just saving a redshirt for the sake of doing so makes sense in many cases-- but this is an area of need and his redshirt season will by no means be wasted. He will be a contributor this season imo

Gachette is an emergency option at best. We need to get BJ involved in our offense ASAP.

i agree that not redshirting is the best choice.

Baptism by fire is not the preferred route.  I know MG has done well but QBs should appear in more than one game before they are the starter.

yes, why waste a year of his eligibility when we are fine at QB and backup.

Why he won't redshirt

1) bj was promised he could play both basketball and football if he signed with usf. making him prepare for game day as a true freshman will be such an overload he won't want to play basketball.

2) We need someone with game experience to back up grothe next year

3) Specialty plays like nothing we've ever seen at usf

and ...

4) Because Leavitt says so and that is the final word.

You think Mauk would like to have his non-medical redshirt back from his freshman year?

Don't burn a redshirt on a key recruit unless you have to due to injury. It will come back to haunt you in the end.

Game experience will be crucial in his development. It will also help to recruit QBs behind him knowing they have  a chance to play sooner.

I think 90% of us are in agreement. Not to mention it isn't up to us.

for all the other reasons (value of a redshirt year in your pocket) and the fact that playing without a 3rd QB is just plain dangerous, my answer is a resounding NO.
