I should not have to mentally edit posts for punctuation purposes. The OS last year used UCF's success as a way to try and build up their name. With newspapers becoming a tough industry to excel in, the OS needs all the press it could get. Last year, UCF was a feel good story with Kevin Smith. The OS put them in the position of being the home paper for this historical player. To keep that image, they hammed up the program. The media world would have shunned the OS if they were negatively bashing Smith when even ESPN was trying to join the Smith wagon. It's no secret that sports editor Lynn Hoppes is not a fan of UCF. When Plancher died, all eyes were on UCF again and the OS used it as an opportunity to be the little emo kid saying, "Look at me! Look at me!" To do so, they dug up more controversy than there really was. They painted O'Leary as a murderer and that UCF was hiding something for malicious reasons. Both turned out to be false: O'Leary is no killer and UCF was legally obligated due to HIPPA laws to keep any possible connection to the death confidential until after autopsy reports were released. The UCF top brass, who were not present at the practice, fumbled a little at first with some incorrect information, but admitted to it and set the record straight. The rest was the OS trying to continue a story that was able to bring them to the center of attention.

It was bad PR.

I better go tell guys like Terrell Davis and Jerry Rice that "historical" players don't get drafted in lower rounds. Tom Brady? Obviously a scrub. There is a difference between "investigating" and sensationalizing. What on Earth does an article on how GOL didn't like Steven Moffett have anything to do with Plancher? The writer added EP at the very end to try and tie the stories together. Or how about the OS article with EP's father, who didn't play a role in the funeral, claiming that the funeral was over 35k and UCF hadn't paid a cent? Turned out the funeral cost less than half of that and UCF covered once receipts were received and reconciled.Where is the proof? There are at least 3 years worth of good articles out there outlining the proof. As for links, go look them up in the OS archives. I don't need to do your dirty work. If he had broken the record, techincally he would have been, only because his name would have been in the record books. Could he turn into an historical player? Of course, you never know where one may come from as you pointed out but he is NOT one now...

If you are so sure, prove it. I lived in Orlando for 6 years. There isn't nearly as much fluff stories as you think. Why would UCF shift blame unless blame was put somewhere to begin with? The OS pointed fingers at O'Leary before they even had a clue as to why EP died. The OS turned out to be wrong in their assumptions and nothing intentional went down. There may be a lawsuit in the works. If you listened to O'Leary during the media day when he told the Sentinel off, he said he was advised not to speak to them. That probably means something is brewing. If I see a defamation or libel suit against the Slantinel from UCF or GOL, I'll expect you to eat some crow.
