Big East: Top games and other news

1. Kansas at South Florida, Sept. 12: One of this season's top nonconference games includes two upstarts from 2007. The Jayhawks were able to finish last season in a BCS bowl game; the Bulls' season ended with a thud. South Florida can gain redemption with a victory over Kansas.

3. South Florida: The Bulls struggled down the stretch a year ago, showing they weren't quite ready for prime time. If Jim Leavitt can replace a star middle linebacker and two shut-down cornerbacks, the Bulls might be ready for the big stage in 2008.

Big East: Top questions heading into camp

2. Can South Florida recapture the magic of the first half of 2007?

The Bulls climbed as high as No. 2 in the national rankings before losing four of their last seven games. There's still plenty of star power in Tampa , starting with defensive end George Selvie and quarterback Matt Grothe. Can Jim Leavitt and defensive coordinator Wally Burnham replace several key performers on defense?

4. David Bedford, DE, South Florida: A non-qualifier in 2006, the transfer from Independence (Kan.) Community College grew up in Palm Beach Lakes, Florida. He chose the Bulls over West Virginia, Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State. He is big enough and fast enough to help the Bulls immediately and might garner enough attention from opponents to help All-American George Selvie on the other side of the line.
