They can ban it but it won't stop drinking before and after the games.  Plus, sneaking liquor into the stadiums would increase substantially - which would get people drunker than sipping on $8 beers.

All NCAA championships are completely beer free not just studentd. Only exceptions ar BCS.

It's per school and occasionally per conference, all ncaa championships are "dry" in student sections....although, that usually doesn't last.

The BCS is not an exception -- it's not an NCAA sanctioned event.  Hence the reason why Appalachian State was the official NCAA Division I Football Champion last year.

That is an SEC rule, not an NCAA rule.

So then the free beer and booze down in the Green and Gold room is considered a club thing and not a part of the rule? We used to get free tix from donors and use them in the old days. Ah yes! Free beer, booze, food, and schmooze with the big boys. Boy did I get the looks when I first walked in with the Reaper costume!!! Ahh the good ole days!    Reap

When I lived in Atlanta I attended a few SEC Championships and Peach Bowls, and neither had beer for sale.  I was surprised by this.

Also, not only do we sell beer for basketball games on campus, we also sell it for BASEBALL GAMES.  Not sure how many places in Division 1A can say that about their baseball programs.  Then again the Baseball Facility is part of the Sun Dome so thats how we can purchase/sell beer.

Jim, I didn't mean it as if the BCS was  an NCAA run event.

All bowl games serve beer simply because it's sanctioned but not run.

No SEC event on or off campus can serve alcohol. I believe they are he only conference with total prohibition.
