Hank to Rays fans: "Better be careful"

Take this how you will, and stop laughing when you can.

Hank Steinbrenner - yes, the Hank Steinbrenner who took the place of his famous father to run the Yankees, yes, the New York Yankees - apparently has heard enough from Rays fans.

And he doesn't like it.

In an interview with Bob Nightengale of USA Today at this Tampa office, Steinbrenner said:

"There's a lot of excitement around here from the Rays fans, but almost to a point of arrogance. They better be careful. They'll learn this (expletive) can change real quick.'''

Yes, that was the boss of the Yankees calling Rays fans arrogant.

Further, Steinbrenner repeated what he brought up in spring training, that small-market teams, such as the Rays, should be thanking the Yankees for their financial subsidies through revenue-sharing and luxury tax payments - and took a pretty good shot at the Red Sox in the process.

"People in baseball know it, whether they want to admit it or not,'' Steinbrenner said. "It helps everyone when the Yankees are good. The Red Sox, whether they're good or not, doesn't necessarily matter, nationally. … Let's face it: The Yankees are baseball history. You're talking about 26 championships."

Wait... I thought there weren't any Rays fans?  How can they be arrogant if they don't exist?  Surely only a handful of Rays fans can't be enough to warrant the wrath of Hank Steinbrenner.... right?

First off Yankee fans are the most arrogant of all fans, and though Im not a fan I can understand why.

Hank does give good advice to these new Rays fans because **** can change real quick.  My buddy who is a Red Sox fan pointed out their schedule in September....take a look....that could be the month they fall 5 games out of the playoff race.  Good luck, lots of Red Sox and Yanks matchups, with a Detroit thrown in there.  Can they win when the games count? historically young teams do not.

Yeah, Septembers gonna be real tough.  I was looking ahead the other day and I was wondering if we would be able to make it through that stretch.  I still think we really need to make a move for another bat.  I keep hearing talk, but haven't seen anything.

I cant stand listening to Hank. I wish he would just shut up sometimes. I miss George already.

It is good advice to Rays fans tho.

As a sox fan, i agree... i miss george too... I can't believe I said that... as I was hoping he'd retire for years... and then when he does... they put his idiot son in that talks out his rear end.  At least george had some baseball sense.

But I guess I'll put up with his stupidity as it can only set the yankees back.

Exactly, this guy is a moron. His dad was smart and brought the yankees to where they are today thanks to his hard work and business knowledge. Hank was born rich, which makes him a snobby brat who thinks he can say/do anything he pleases.

I agree with him, that's some good advice.

And come on, the Red Sox joke was funny...

Can't wait for the Yanks to play here!!

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
