mulheap Posted July 9, 2008 Group: Member Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 509 Reputation: 0 Days Won: 0 Joined: 10/02/2002 Share Posted July 9, 2008 His numbers are more than solid, and he's unhittable when he's on. To say he's "horrible" is ignorant. Here's the deal: Kaz is conditioned to be a finesse, strikeout pitcher because he's historically been backed up by terrible defense. So he gets ahead on a batter 0-2, and then dinks and dunks trying to nip the outside corner for the K until he's thrown 8 pitches to the guy... then eventually gets the K, and eventually gets yanked after 5 because he's thrown 110 pitches. He needs to learn that the D behind him is solid and to be aggressive on an 0-2 count. Also, he needs to mix in the Slider a bit more. I think if he'd let the fielders do their jobs and just keep going at batters when ahead in the count, he'd cut 25 pitches a game off his total. My pseudo-analysis.exactly. he has always tried to strike every guy in the lineup out when he had no confidence in the rest of his team. now, he has one of the best defenses in the AL behind him, and he still tries to be too perfect. Shields knows he has good defense behind him, Garza now knows he has good defense behind him, Sonnanstine knows he has a good defense behind him, the entire bullpen knows they have a good defense behind them. So, why can't Kazmir get it through his skull he can pitch to contact and let his defense get the outs for him? that's the whole frustration. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!We've got some great baseball minds on this board! Im mean seriously kid is 24 has nasty stuff and hasn't had a great catcher to help him develop (HUGE when developing young SP's) and had a terrible defense behind him every year but this year. Every GM in the game would gladly take him off the Rays hands for a bottom 1/2 of the rotation guy like Sonnastine, good thing for the Rays you aren't in charge.
