Dev just shot me a text... he's down to $27,000 in chips... He's got his work cut out for himself!

The beauty of the main event is that it combines the greatest structure of any poker event in the world with the softest field.  Being down to 27k isn't death the way it would be in your local $225 tournament on a Saturday somewhere.  Blinds are only 300-600 with a 75 ante, the next level is 400-800-100... that's plenty of play still for a guy with 27k.  He's hardly in the panic zone now.  Needs to get some chips by the end of today, but don't freak yet.  Plenty of time for a comeback.

GL Devin... you're on my sweat list on wsop.com.  :)

He shot me another text at 4:45 PM... "Sick. Got down to 2k. Doubled, then tripled up back to 20K. On break now." Was in the middle of a call, so I couldn't shoot him a rah-rah text. FWIW... I haven't seen his name on WSOP all day either since they showed his one chip count. Let's hope he can fight through the day!

Most recent text at 7:30 PM... "25K at dinner break. Resume in 1.5 hours." Still hanging... Come on buddy... another six hours!

Updated Chip Count from the WSOP site: Devin Hammer 42,100 - Still in the hunt...

At one point, Devin was down to 2,800. Just exchanged a series of text with Devin. He said they are on the last break for the day, and have two more hours of play. Man... he is so close to making it to day 3. They still have 3,018 players left... the average stack is at 45,000+ chips. Come on Devin... Go Bulls!

Remember Sheriff, around 2000 of those 3018 didn't even play today... they'll play Day 2B tomorrow.  And the 2B field is much larger than the 2A field, as there were a ton more entries on Saturday and Sunday over last Thursday and Friday.  The money bubble is the rather scary number of 666, meaning you have to finish at least in 666th place to get paid.  If you can get through the evening, you've probably got a better than 50/50 shot.

From the wsop.com blog, which is covering the tournament live, posted 11:50pm PDT:

A middle-position player raised, then Devin Hammer reraised from the button. His opponent called. The pair checked down the 4 A 5 5 A (3 spades) board. When Hammer checked on the end, his opponent said "You got me," turning over 99. Indeed, he did -- Hammer tabled QQ. Hammer is up to 49,000.

Fire a value bullet on the end Devin!!  :)

750 players eliminated already today.  That'll increase, and probably another 1200 go home tomorrow if not more.

Crazy last two hours.  Finally got up to 49K but donked off a bunch of chips.  Chip leader came to the table (over 1M in chips, casino staff had to help him carry his chips)  I'm down to 19,100 and it's not looking good. Day 3 is Thursday.

Collin,  couldn't risk the value bet.  Was heads up against big stack at the time and he has been slow playing a lot of hands.  If he came over the top I would have had to dump it.
