We offered Dominic Grooms while in HS. I don't know if CJL has any interest in him now:

Report: Grooms to transfer closer to home

Former Middleton quarterback Dominic Grooms, who was going to enter the preseason of his sophomore season as Missouri's No. 3  quarterback behind a pair of seniors, has left the school and will transfer closer to home, according to published reports.

Grooms has left the program, according to the Kansas City Star and the Columbia (Mo.) Daily Tribune. Team spokesman Dan Moller also told the Daily Tribune that Grooms left the school on good terms and that MU will help Grooms transfer to a college closer to Tampa.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Grooms, who was ranked the nation's 24th best dual-threat quarterback by rivals.com his senior year, chose to go to Missouri over USF, N.C. State, Clemson, North Carolina and Vanderbilt.

Grooms was listed third on the team's spring depth chart behind Heisman Trophy finalist Chase Daniel and Chase Patton.

Questions about Grooms' status arose when he didn't participate in 7-on-7 drills earlier this month. Interestingly enough, Grooms' departure means that both quarterbacks Missouri signed in 2006 have transfered. Grooms is the seventh player from that year's recruiting class to leave the school, the Daily Tribune reported.

Grooms leaves MU football team

Sophomore quarterback Dominic Grooms has left the Missouri football program, team spokesman Chad Moller confirmed yesterday. Grooms, MU’s No. 3 quarterback last season, hadn’t been attending the team’s twice-a-week 7-on-7 summer practices. Moller said Grooms left on good terms and the MU coaching staff will assist him in finding another school where he can enroll, most likely closer to his home in Tampa, Fla.

On Tuesday, Grooms’ high school coach, Harry Hubbard, from Middletown, Fla., High School in Tampa, said he last spoke to Grooms shortly after Missouri’s Black and Gold scrimmage on April 19.

"When I last talked to him, he told me he thought he had a pretty good spring, but he said he might not go back," Hubbard said. "But at the time, he didn’t know for sure."

In four spring scrimmages, Grooms, who never appeared in a game at MU, completed 47 of 88 passes for 256 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Grooms’ departure means both quarterbacks Missouri signed in 2006 have left the program. J.P. Tillman, a Houston native, left the team in March. Grooms is the seventh player from MU’s 2006 recruiting class to leave the program before their eligibility has expired.

The Tigers are left with three scholarship quarterbacks for the upcoming season: seniors Chase Daniel and Chase Patton and freshman Blaine Gabbert.

Also, North Crawley, Texas, defensive lineman Marvin Foster has given Missouri a verbal commitment for 2009, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported yesterday. Foster (6-foot-1, 260 pounds) is the younger brother of New Orleans Saints center Marquay Love, who played in college at Houston. Foster is the 12th player known to give MU a commitment for 2009.

Pass.  He verballed, and then switched to Missouri.  He won't play QB and I don't thinkhe's such a phenomenol athlete that we need him.  If he wanted to walk-on maybe.  Good luck to him.

I'd say take him.

He wont beat Grothe out, so he wouldn't play a lot for atleast 2 years and Daniels will give him a run for his money, but it's not bad to have a decent back-up.

He'll probably go to looney-toon U in Mouseland if he wants to start soon is my guess.

my guess he would switch positions if he comes here but I know he is very close with former baseball player Yuri Higgins and he was always over our place when I lived with Yuri. He is a good kid and could be worthy of a shot.

I talked with Yuri and he said he thinks he is leaning towards Tennessee state which is also where one of the players who left usf this year is leaning towards as well, was it douglas? I think so. Well it's good then he should go where he has the best opportunity to play because we seem pretty full at the moment.

Grooms headed to Tennessee State

Former Middleton quarterback Dominic Grooms, who was Missouri's No. 3 signal caller before leaving the program recently, said he is transferring to Tennessee State.

In high school, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Grooms, ranked the nation's 24th-best dual-threat quarterback by rivals.com, chose Missouri over USF, N.C. State, Clemson, North Carolina and Vanderbilt. A sophomore, he was listed third on the team's spring depth chart behind Heisman Trophy finalist Chase Daniel and Chase Patton.

"There wasn't a problem (at Missouri) at all," Grooms said. "I had to get closer to home.

"I feel like being closer to home is best for the family. And I have some other family in the area (the school is in Nashville). That kind of makes it more of a home-like situation."

Because Tennessee State is a Division I-AA program, Grooms can play in the fall.

He is confident he will be the team's starting quarterback. Playing behind Daniel, one of the country's best, made him a better player, Grooms said.

How much closer can Tennessee State be over Missouri? It's 1023 miles from Missouri, about 15 hours.  It's 713 miles from Tennessee State and 10.5 hours.  Is 3.5 hours really that big a difference here?

I believe he mentioned that he has family living near Nashville. If he's really close to his family in TN, then that would make his situation comfortable like being at home.

Okay, that makes sense.
