We should STILL have one more scholarship to give out in 2009.  :D

Correct, and if we were to get Pena, per the other post, that would be it for 2009.... that is scary to think we would be done recruiting until 2010 in the summer of 2008.  :o

good stan can start coaching then

yep 13 is the allowed amount...

there used to be a 5/8 rule, where you could sign 5 players max per season, and 8 max over a 2 year period.

(the numbers added up to 13... so that was how I remembered ;) )

ole bob was the man

CSH is definitely doing somethung Mac never did ..... making us question about not having enough schollies for our commitments. Next step is translating more bodies to success on the court.

well look at where they came from-- CRM came from a small school MAC team with some ecent credentials but nothing amazing. Heath came from an SEC team with NCAA pedigree.

We need to stop ******** all over Robert McCullum imo--- the guy was hired to be the coach of a CUSA team (somewhat equivalent to MAC if not a bit of a step up)--- he had no idea that USF would be in the BigEast almost immediately upon his transition here. He has stated this was beyond his ability as a coach. I give him credit for admitting as much. If anything, he did a decent job of removing some of the negative stigma attached to the program from various areas giving Heath a clean slate to work with. Perhaps we should admit what CRM really was-- the rebound coach after many years under the Seth scenario. It wasn't going to last and personally-- i think it was more or less short sighted of us to hire this coach. But in retrospect-- at the time we were still very much focused on getting football to a point where we wanted to be (and some of the situation was having Lee Roy Selmon -- an admittedly inexperienced AD-- at the helm). We got CRM on the cheap imo. We need to stop bashing him and whatever happened under him. Yeah-- USF hoops nosedived significantly under CRM-- but other areas flourished as well. And there were a few memorable moments as well. I think we can give that whole thing a rest by now. Thankfully we landed a coach with some serious vision and contacts.

I think we can see ourselves getting to a point of very competitive basketball sooner than later under Coach Heath. I'm not basing this solely on this particular recruit-- but the overall attitude change within the program itself.

Article from Detroit Free Press:

Country Day's Dumars picks South Florida

BY VINCE ELLIS • FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER • June 24, 2008

Birmingham Detroit Country Day basketball standout Jordan Dumars had two goals when he headed to Orlando in early May.

First, he had to check out the Pistons against the Orlando Magic in the first round of the NBA playoffs. Understandable because his dad, Joe Dumars, is the Pistons' team president.

Second, he paid an unofficial visit to South Florida.

Jordan Dumars liked the place so much, the 6-foot-6 senior wing decided to commit to South Florida on Sunday night.

Country Day coach Kurt Keener said Dumars was also attracted to South Florida coach Stan Heath, a former Michigan State assistant.

"He really liked him and his vision of the program," Keener said Monday. "He really liked the setup there and what they have going on."

Dumars' fellow Country Day teammates DaShonte Riley (Georgetown) and Donnavan Kirk (Miami, Fla.) made college commitments earlier this year, and Keener suspected that played a role in Dumars' decision. "All of them decided if we find the right situation, let's go for it," Keener said. "Why waste time and draw out the decision-making process?"

Dumars has shown the ability to knock down outside shots, but Keener thinks his best basketball is coming. "Once he gets seriously into weight training, he has a lot of potential at either of the wing spots," Keener said.

Picked USF over Duquesne Dukes, Michigan, and Dayton.

BTW USF couldn't pay enough for all the positive free press we are getting from just having Jordan Dumars commit to us.Just a Google of his name and his commitment to USF can be found on all the recruiting sites and some of the nation's biggest newspapers including USA TODAY.This only helps promote our up and coming program to Future Recruits.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
