Notre Dame extends television deal five years

June 19, 2008

CBSSports.com wire reports

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame is renewing its television contract with NBC.

The university and NBC announced Thursday they have agreed to a five-year deal that runs through the 2015 season. The current contract was scheduled to expire in 2010.

This contract includes seven homes games per season. It allows for the first time an eighth off-site home game played at a neutral stadium.

NBC has broadcast Irish football since 1991.

Not just the Big East Jim.............The Big 10 and every other conference that ever was mentioned.  Can you really blame them though?  If USF had all of the home games televised on NBC and received millions of dollars from it, do you think the Bulls would move to a conference when they didn't have to?

I don't think ND ever had good season since 1991 with NBC contract. I know there is no better than .600 record since 1996..

In 1993 they beat FSU in the first "Game of the Century" match-up at ND.  At the time, and for future years, that was one of the most highly rated regular season college football games ever.  They've had some good seasons since 1991, but have not been consistent since then.

BE is fortunate to have tie-in with ND in all but fb and esp now with ND committing to some level of play against BE teams.  the exposure this brings is hard to match.  watch what happens when Bulls beat ND in south bend.

The Big East could mold a deal that would leave ND media coverage untouched.  Or work something out for conference games.  This doesn't mean it wont happen.

Although it wont.

why is NBC stupid?  ND football is still a huge TV draw ALL over the nation...not just regionally like 95% of college football
