While not sports related, this story is about a Big East opponent.  And, in the spirit of the “Which Big East Team You Hate Most†poll, it seems like this might be valuable news to some.

The WVU president is stepping down amid controversy.  Apparently (and allegedly), the university conferred an improper degree to the state governor’s daughter.  Also, the linked story mentions Rich Rod's lawsuit as a motivating factor in causing the resignation.

if you are actually interested in the story, the pittsburgh post-gazette is a good source to go read all the stories dating back to last october.  the post-gazette actually started the investigative series of stories that have culminated in the president's resignation.

this truly was an embarassment for the school and sullied its reputation.  i am glad he finally resigned.  he should have never been hired in the first place.

According to the Times, at least 70 degrees are in question.

This is suicidal for any serious university. You get a reputation for this kind of behavior and you wind up unaccredited.

Wow...

Thanks for the additional details.  I wasn't aware of the severity of the situation.

fortunately, IMO all the right things are happening.  the independent committee (with a member from of all schools,  Pitt), found that this was an isolated incident, and there were no other issues going on.

this part of the story (70 other emba's with problems) is an unsubstantiated allegation that garrison himself made without providing any documentation.  he made this claim during a meeting with the board of governors only recently (about a week ago). IMO he was still scrambling to try and save his job and was throwing out ******** to take the attention off of himself.  unfortunately once this crap goes public, whether it is true or not, it starts to take on a life of its own the more it get repeated.

the investigative panel that looked into the heather bresch mba issue rebuked his claims and insisted they found absolutely no widespread problems in the program, and several other university officials demanded garrison turn over any documentation he had regarding this.  they're still waiting for garrison's documentation.

I don't think they'd take him back.  They are pretty bitter.

Though I agree the UM job is a lot less secure than the one he had at WVU.

I think that's part of the reason Leavitt hasn't left.  No one is going to fire him here anytime soon.  It would probably take several toilet seasons in a row.
