James "Brad" Crooks was a USF grad. He was a pretty good friend of mine. We met my freshman year while living in the dorms and chowing on the meal plan. Kind of makes you appreciate the time you have on this earth. If you are driving on SR 54 near I-75, there is a plaque naming the highway after him in the driveway of the motorcycle dealership. I only found out because my wife ended up teaching with her at an Elementary school, and was teaching with her when it all happened. She was of course devastated for years... but she's moved on.Terrible day. I remember feeling saddest for the 4 year old boy and for Officer Crooks... two innocents who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.RIP to both of them. She basically had to move on. The problem was the media constantly hounding, as well as charities and such. With stuff like this all you can do is put it behind you. It is just sad all the way around. I haven't thought much of it myself over the years, but I read that article yesterday and it took me back a bit.
