Nobody is claiming otherwise, just as you are not suggesting the publicity and press that came along with a #2 ranking was bad.

When all was said and done we were #4 in the conference and took a beating in our bowl game.  The end result is what is important.  When anybody looks through the annals of College Football they will see we ended up in the middle of the BE pack and around the mid 30's in the nation.  There were no awards given for either last time I checked.

Realism!

I love it! 

Such a rare personality trait amongst Bulls fans.

LOL. I feel like I'm in the middle of some kind of McCarthy hearing or something.

just because I'm not caught up in some delusions of grandeur about the Bulls doesn't mean I don't love the team or have school pride...

i'm as much a fan as anybody else, i have my degree from USF hanging in my classroom (along with several Bulls posters and flyers), and want for us to be a household name just like the rest of u.

but few people outside of the diehards will remember the Bulls for being ranked #2 in the middle of last season, and if we fail to build on that success this season the way we failed to build on it during the second half of last season, any and all residuals of glory from that #2 ranking will be long forgotten.

if we go 9-4 (again) this year and finish 4th in the Big East (again) that #2 ranking will be ancient and long forgotten history.

to quote a masterpiece of classic Americana

We can't all sit around and moan.

I think the original poster's point was that having been ranked and gained national press, it benefitted us.  No one is claiming that that ranking alone made the entire season a success.
