Thanks for your email and your comments. South Florida is a unique situation

for us, being a 'out-of-region team,' for lack of a better term. We have

difficulty getting enough facings on newsstands (meaning the amount of

different magazines); there simply isn't enough room for our ACC (Florida

State), SEC (Florida), National, NFL and Eastern. Our circulation department

is trying to figure out ways to get our Eastern Magazine on the stands in

the Tampa area.

Two or three years ago, we offered an Internet-only South Florida magazine

and it didn't sell as well as we had hoped. Starting next year, we are going

to offer Custom Covers, meaning that if we get 1,000 pre-orders (or more),

we will put South Florida (or any school) on the cover for purchase on our

website.

Thanks for your comments. Good luck to the Bulls.

Not the answer any of us would like to hear, but it does sound reasonable. I'm impressed that they actually gave you a legitimate response.

I know their special internet edition with Andre Hall on the 2005 cover did very well. At the time, they listed it as one of their best seller's on their website.

I don't know how well their 2006 cover with Stephen Nicholas sold. I only know I bought one.

The problem in the past has really been with the magazine distributors in Florida. They are so used to selling a bunch of Athlon mags with UF, FSU and Miami on the cover, that they didn't feel they needed one for USF.

I got the identical response to my first e-mail. I sent a follow up mentioning the sales of the Andre Hall edition and the fact that UConn is on the cover of two editions (Eastern and National). She didn't address sales of the Hall cover, but said this about UConn:

The national covers are sold regionally, too (if that makes sense). Our National mag with Rutgers and UConn is only sold in the Northeast. It has Tebow on it too, because he is the Heisman winner. The Eastern Regional edition with UConn and SU is only sold in NY and Conn.

Thanks again. I do appreciate your interest in Athlon.

what's the e-mail address?  i'm going to throw a few vulgarities and personal threats in my inquiry and see if it generates a better response.

if they value their kneecaps, they WILL give us a Bulls cover.
