Kid was a flash in the pan now that teams seem to have remembered that he can't hit off speed stuff (big knock on him while coming up through the minors and his time before he was a ray).

He better Talk to Joboo about it.

Ok it's five days later.  I've watched most of the games since then and went to the Trop for Saturdays game.  Pena is making contact.  He's only struck out 3 times in the last 4 games.  I think he's coming around.

He'll get it going again.  You can't tell me that the league didn't figure out that he couldn't hit offspeed stuff last year until he hit his 46th homerun.  Now he has some protection batting behind him.  He'll get it going soon enough.  Likely won't match last year's production, but if he ends up w/ 30+ HR's and hits .260 or so I'd be happy.

Who cares if he hits a solo home run when your team is up 7-1.  Now that the Rays are in more games his production will decrease because the Rays will be in better situations on a more regular basis making the quality of the pitcher he will face better on average.  No sense burning out all your best pitching in a game you shouldn't lose.  Also please note that Pena has only hit over 20hrs 2 times in his career and has only hit over .260 2 years as well.  (1 of which he played less than 20 games).

i think you might see cliff floyd in the 4 spot against righties.  but dont be too quick to write pena off.

he is GREAT with the glove at first and saves atleast 2 or 3 baserunners a game so there is no way that you sit him.

That's exactly why he's still in there. Although early in the year, he's one of the top fielding first basemen ....
