Maybe they aren't being ignored, maybe they just can't quite figure out how to vote for what they want. "oh, i have to color in the circle next to the thing I want to vote for, well that explains it"

Let's call them Okeechobee, and we will remain Florida. I don't want to have to change our name to Universidad de la Florida del Sur

One Florida City Calls for a State Split: North Florida and South Florida

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla.   One city commission wants to divide Florida into two states: North Florida and South Florida.

The North Lauderdale City Commission says in a resolution that it's not confident in state leaders when it comes to collecting and spending their own money. It also says it would be "in the best interests of the citizens and residents" to divide the state.

Commissioner Rich Moyle says they're frustrated with the state Legislature "ignoring the cities in South Florida." But he acknowledges the idea likely won't pass.

When asked Tuesday about the resolution, Governor Charlie Crist could only muster up a laugh.

Meanwhile, other municipalities and counties are being asked to join in the resolution. The boundary line would be from Palm Beach County down through Monroe County.

How about we annex Miami and surrounding counties to Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti, or some other Carribean natin.  Or let Key West take over as the capital and then "South Florida" could be part of the Conch Republic.

Then the continental US boundry would be north of Okeechobee.

You do know Puerto Rico is part of the US

I like the way you're thinking. South Florida could be a non-State, like Puerto Rico.

Yes, it is a territory.  So basically it can have its own laws, but uses US currency and miliary and is "friendly" to the US.  But it is not a state adn does not ahve rights/priveledges equal to that of a state.  It is kind of a hybrid, not independent, but not completely part of the US either.  Crime rate in PR is probably about equal to that in Miami....  Lots of bars on windows there.
