Julmiste, Banks To Play For USF On Saturday

Published: Sep 17, 2004

TAMPA - South Carolina will start its backup quarterback Saturday night against South Florida and the Bulls might as well.

USC coach Lou Holtz said sophomore Syvelle Newton would start in place of senior Dondrial Pinkins. USF coach Jim Leavitt wouldn't disclose his starter Thursday, but said sophomore starter Pat Julmiste and senior Ronnie Banks will play.

``Ronnie looked good in practice,'' quarterbacks coach Rod Smith said. ``If the opportunity comes, he'll have a chance to go in and move the offense.''

Banks practiced with the first-team Thursday, while Julmiste, who sprained his right knee Saturday against Tennessee Tech, worked with the second team.

``They're both ready,'' Leavitt said.

Julmiste will wear a brace on his right knee, but appears 100 percent, Leavitt said.

``He was moving good with it, he moves well,'' Leavitt said.

Julmiste has three career starts and is 3-0, including last week's opener. Banks started eight games last season before being replaced by Julmiste.

For USC, Pinkins (bruised right shoulder) is questionable and starting RB Demetris Summers (ankle) is out. Senior Gonzie Gray is expected to replace Summers.

USF C Alex Herron (knee) and CB Mike Jenkins (concussion), both injured last week, will start.

I think CJL is expecting some garbage time because we have so thoroughly dominated the game .............

(I can dream, can't I?)

The true definition of insanity - Expecting different results from the continued repitition of a single act...

How many times are we going to bang our head against this wall?

Excellent point, BeastieBull.  To put it in other words:

If you keep doing what you're doing, you'll keep getting what you're getting.

Both QB's must still be quite equal is all I can think of ...

Gachette can't be any better, same this season for RS or in case someone is hurt.

NEED Better QB play this season ...  :P

Go BULLS !!!

pinkins is not playing because he bruised his shoulder during the georgia game last week. he woke up sunday with significant pains that continued over into the week, and did not practice the required amount of practices. (coach holtz has a rule where if a player does not practice 2 days out of the week- he will not start the saturday game.)

he will however dress.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
