Lockwood On BIG EAST Honor Roll

TAMPA, Fla. – Freshman outfielder Ryan Lockwood has earned his second BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll award, the conference announced on April 21.

In five games last week, Lockwood extended his hitting streak to 22 games, batting .500 while connecting on 11 hits and driving in seven RBI. He posted a .545 slugging and .520 on base percentage while collecting 12 total bases. Lockwood had a pair of two-hit games and two three-hit outings this week. His single-hit outing was a double on Tuesday night at Stetson. Lockwood stole four bases, two in the first game against Rutgers. Lockwood made 12 put outs and had no errors in center field for the Bulls.

Lockwood is a good player and should be our leadoff hitter with his speed.  He's not used properly in that 3 or 4 hole.  Maruszak needs to be moved back to the 3 hole.  One of the problems is that we don't have a true 4 or 5 hitter.  Hobbs just hasn't been cutting it at that spot for most of the year.  Brandin Smith was having a really good year, but he too was not a prototypical 4 hitter either.

My lineup would be Lockwood, Smith, Maruszak, Angelberger, Rey, Hunt, Manz, Consolmagno (or Hobbs vs LHP), Koscso.  Manz is the other player where he doesn't really fit into any part of this lineup.  You have to put him somewhere, so he might as well follow Hunt.  Conso and JK are interchangeable at the back end of the lineup.  Its kind of sad when Conso is your 3rd best option for the OF though.  If we had any depth, he'd be a pinch runner most of the time.

You hit it on the head "we don't have a true 4 or 5 hitter"

One of the reasons I think we could get better quick is that adding two big time players to this team would allow everyone else to be moved into a role they are better suited for.

You're right the fact that Conso keeps playing is the best evidence of the lack of depth these coaches are dealing with.
