USF Falls Short of First BIG EAST Title

TAMPA, Fla.  – The University of South Florida men’s tennis team dropped a close match to the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish 4-3 in the title match of the 2008 BIG EAST Tennis Championships.

“All of our guys really battled as a team today,” said USF head coach Don Barr. “Yesterday we had one group step up and today we had the other step up so it was good to see all the guys pick each other up when someone is struggling. It was a team effort in this tournament and I can’t be more proud of them then I am right now.”

All the same, it's a great showing. I agree that our team should be able to build on this. The Tampa area is a Mecca for tennis and we should be able to attract more big talent. We are talented now and things will only get better.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

"They picked us at the bottom. We're trying to get to the top. We're looking forward to the future, not backward.''
