University of South Florida forward Amu Saaka became the second sophomore this week to leave the Bulls’ program.

“It just wasn’t the right fit for me anymore,†Saaka said.

Like guard Solomon Bozeman, who said Monday he was leaving USF, Saaka was recruited to USF by former coach Robert McCullum and saw his playing time diminish this year under first-year coach Stan Heath.

As a freshman, Saaka averaged 17.3 minutes, 3.5 points and 3.0 rebounds.  This past season, Saaka averaged 10.3 minutes, 2.7 points and 1.6 rebounds.

“It was tough because I was just getting used to the Tampa area,†Saaka said. “I have built good relationships with my teammates and classmates, but at the end of the day I had to make a decision that was the best for me. But I will always be tied to USF.â€Â

With Bozeman and Saaka leaving, the Bulls now have four available scholarships.

Good luck to Saaka, hopefully things look up for him elsewhere.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
