It is usually a read option, grothe's choice. He needs to be more willing to trust his backs.

Seems more like 85-90% to me.

Yeah, and making him a one-man show will kill this team.

What is your solution?  Maybe we could go back to the offense from the care care bowl- the one where we were shut out and the best pass came from the punter

Another valid point. However with the running backs we have brought in we should be able to take some of the pressure off of him.

Yeah... those draw plays up the middle just racked up the yards  ::) Until we get some better play calling the situation isn't going to get any better. You can run Ford, Williams or Taylor up the middle with the same play all game long... eventually it's not going to work anymore... we're lucky it lasted 6 games....

Thats why I used the word should. There is no reason that we are misusing them so badly. The talent we have at that position should allow us to open up a bit and play a hell of a lot better on offense than we have been.

Point noted... my apologies

Only one pick was Matts fault. Denson was clueless out there, and one was on an obvious PI.

We live and die with Grothe.

For those of you saying you want to see the back up, think about this... the back up is Grant Gregory... the guy that is making Matt look bad is Greg Gregory... Grant's dad. There comes a time when daddy needs to let go, and let his son play without him having influence in what happens.

Yes, our only running play in the entire playbook, seriously, is that Read-Option play.  And I will tell you that that play worked ONLY when Mike Ford was in.  Ford is the only runningback on this team that scares other teams, so when you do that read play, they will bite on Ford every time.

When you can't run the ball, you can't win unless you're Hawaii and you play San Jose Costa Rica Republican State University of Sascatchuan Canadian Republic of Dudley Doo-Right

Do they have an opening on their schedule for next year?  Maybe we can drop UCF and get them instead...  ;)

lol.  i was screaming for Grant Gregory and Anthony Severino in the 3rd quarter.

apparently, the kool-aid sipping homer douchebags in the student section didn't like that, and started yelling "f**k you!!  f**k you!!" at me.

whatever.  ::)

Postmortem and Southshore, it does not matter how talented your running backs or QB is if they have no offensive line.  The line protects for the pass plays and opens gaps for the running game.  If it does not do one of those things a team becomes predictable and is shut down.  If it does neither you have what you see out of USF right now....a versitle QB taking the team on his shoulders and trying to do it all himself.  This leads to him looking bad because he will not be able to do it all and will make mistakes.

The simple fact is that as the season has progressed we have gotten banged up on the O-line and our attack has become one or non-dimensional (with the exception of what Matt G. can create on his own or what his recievers, if you want to call them that, catch).

So to complete the circle, if the O-line does not perform, the "skill" positions become almost worthless on attack and new ones won't solve the problem.  We need talent on the O-line pronto!

So why can Matt run on other defenses but our running backs can't? It's just like the NFL, when you give up on the running game you are going to have a hard time winning games.

This is the correct opinion! Thank you for having a football IQ because most of the other opinions about our offense are worthless.

Though it is not "romantic" to place the blame where it belongs, this is the truth.  And these guys are young and trying, but they are outgunned.  Without an O'line, no one will look good.  But instead of blaming the apparent culprits, people need to dig deeper and see that Grothe and the runners don't have the support they need to look good.

Really, this our next recruiting priority and getting some of those corn-fed upper mid-westerners who would like to spend time on the beach and eye the bikini girls would benefit the people who are getting blamed right now.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
