Interesting article on CNNSI about the Rutgers v. UConn game. The way I read this is that we didn't get any extra money for the UCF - USF game being on ESPNU.

Here's the applicable quote: "Hathaway said UConn loses not only the exposure and recruiting advantage of being on a major network, but also about $100,000 each game. Under the league's revenue sharing deal, conference teams do not receive compensation from being on ESPNU, but are compensated when their games are on ABC, ESPN and ESPN2."

Being on ESPNU is considered part of the basic TV package for Big East schools. If a game is picked up for ESPN or ESPN2 broadcast, each school gets about $101,000; if a game is on ABC national, I believe the payout is closer to $125,000.

Hey Greg since I see you're up and about, your last blog post is posted twice. Thanks for the info on the deal. Does that mean ABC regional like this Saturday's game also pays out at around $125,000 or is it only for the national Prime Time game?

depends on the cable carrier...

Brighthouse has it as part of the digital package (ch. 151 or something), not basic cable.

i don't believe Comcast gets it... or at least that's what friends down there in Venice/North Port have told me, and their carrier is Comcast.

ESPNU is better than no broadcast, but the picture quality on that channel is very poor.  A poor quality picture is better than none, but the really lousy picture quality on Brighthouse 47 is almost unbearable.  It is like a YouTube stream on the cable channel.
