i think the line of thought that perpetuates this idea is missouri moving to the big ten to make the big ten eligible for a conference championship game, then arkansas replaces missouri in the big 12.  and usf replaces arkansas.

right now i don't see why we would want to leave the big east though.  even if it were for the SEC.

As I've said before, I can see the Big XII pulling up TCU or someone before the domino effect you describe, in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the SEC would say "to hell with that" and drop their championship game before letting our nouveau riche behinds in.

Logistics question: What would the Big Ten/'Leven start calling themselves if they had 12?

The other crappy Big 12 conference

seems like a reach

happy with the Big East quite frankly-- and the money is probably the same if not better when spread around 8 football schools versus 12-- despite the extra number of bowls involved.

I just don't see it happening realistically-- then again-- who would have said the Big East was in our sites back in 2000

I believe the Big East is a great place for USF and will only get better as time goes on.

Big east is good to us, but the location of all BE schools make it hard for fans to travel. If there was an invite to the SEC, I think our alumni and students would travel a bit more too thus boosting image and the school.

How does the location of all the BE schools make it hard for fans to travel?

These BIG EAST football schools are in major cities with major airports.  No puddle jumpers or renting a car and driving for hours to get to the school.

The obvious big BIG EAST cities:

  • Cincinnati, OH
  • Pittsburgh, PA
  • Louisville, KY
  • Syracuse, NY
  • Tampa, FL

I think the statement is that it makes it hard to travel by road. There are typically quick easy flights from Tampa to many Big East cities, but games that one can get to in a car/bus/RV with relative ease are not there.

Why the hell would we want to go to the SEC???

Seems a lot easier to get a NC in the Big East if you ask me.  Never understood why Miami left to go try to play FSU every year.  (back when those teams were good)

Not going to happen.

a move to the SEC would really boost our road attedance but i just cant see it happening.  we JUST got into the Big East.  you guys have to realize that changing conferences is not a regular thing.  The ACC kinda forced some hands a little bit a few years ago but schools just don't do changing conferences every couple of years
