Don't be duped by counterfeit tickets, USF warns

TAMPA -- Nearly 50 fans were caught trying to get into the University of South Florida's now legendary upset of West Virginia with counterfeit tickets on Sept. 28. For this weekend's game versus Central Florida, athletic officials are warning buyers to consider their source.

"They were pretty good duplications of our tickets," said Chris Freet, spokesman for the athletic department. "But we have ways to tell the difference."

Freet said those methods won't be circulated either.

The surest way to get official tickets is through the university or Ticketmaster, he said. Other popular methods like scalpers and eBay are used at the fan's own risk.

Students have more opportunity than ever to get tickets, since the athletic department expanded the student section from 8,000 to 12,501 to make it the largest in the Big East, Freet said.

"Ideally, we want to get everybody in to the games," he said. "But if you buy bogus tickets, there's nothing we can do for you."
