The national media has been saying that Boise St was faster in getting ranked than USF. But they are wrong! Boise St started I-A football in 1996, a full year before USF had even played a game of football! Boise St played in I-AA from 1978 until 1995.

USF holds the record for fastest to a ranking and fastest to a top 10 ranking.

But what I think the media is referring to is since making the jump to 1-A --- it took Boise State 117 weeks to get ranked while USF took 121 weeks since making the jump to 1-A, not necessarily about when the program started.
