In the beef studs meetings it is specified...limit cussing, especially around children, and to carry yourself with the utmost integrity when dressed, and I don't know of any other group with as much school spirit and a better track record of attending all USF sporting events (not just football.) Beef Studs= one of the best things going for USF athletics fan support period. We had sooo many compliments from Auburn fans, even a few AU fans wished that they had a group with as much spirit as the studs.

Ok as a 3 year member of Student Bulls Club and now the President I have to speak up about that statement.  To say that no other group has as much school spirit as you guys is insane.  SBC is full of DONORS to the University of South Florida Athletic Department.  That being said, before this year, I had not seen any beef studs at soccer (other then the Stetson game last year), volleyball, softball, and very limited baseball games while SBC members are at at the very least one game for each sport a season and most of the time more.

I gave props to the Beef Studs earlier in this thread because of the spirit they had at volleyball and soccer against UCF and I was happy to see it.  I hope that this continues because obviously the more fans with school spirit the better.

Please understand that I am not saying that SBC has more school spirit then the Beef Studs or any other organization or individual student at USF but I think it is wrong to disrespect everyone by saying you have the most school spirit.  This post is also not to bash the beef studs as they don't deserve that but I believe that the post was not completely accurate.

Hope to see all of you at Soccer on Friday night as well as football on Saturday!

GO BULLS!

Uhh... bullcocky... I don't know who you are. I love the spirit, I really do, but I have to agree with A. Lau here. A well written response, Mr. Lau. Now, my understanding is that a lot of Studs have been going to soccer, volleyball, and baseball games this year, just not painted. But concerning the statement "I don't know of any other group with as much school spirit and a better track record of attending all USF sporting events," with all due respect bullcocky, you may not have heard of the Student Bulls Club (though maybe you just didn't think of them when writing that), but I'd have to say they have a better track record by far of attending all USF sporting events. I was a member of SBC (it was SAA then) before helping to start the Beef Studs in 2001/2002, and for all 4 of my years at USF. Man, I used to marvel at how the dedicated few would turn out for everything from golf to tennis to the big stuff too. The Studs went through quite a rocky year last year, and contained a few members who did not act in the best interest of the organization. In addition, while attendance at non-football, non-basketball events did exist, it couldn't have matched that of the SBC.

That said, I do love your spirit, and I do think that this year there is great potential with a huge roster and strong leadership to make an excellent showing to support USF at close to all the sporting events. They've done a good job painting up for things like Dance Marathon, Round-Up, summer orientations, and various spirit events around campus, and I think this year could be a turning point for Studs to be everywhere. However, it is best to remain humble. The purpose of painting green and gold and cheering loudly and proudly for USF isn't to claim any fame or to try to be the most spirited fans. I don't think that's what you meant, but the way you wrote made it kinda seem that way. We're meant to humbly support and represent our university by being supportive fans. A few folks lost sight of that last year, and they're doing much better this year in that regard.

As long as we keep the focus on representing USF well, I look forward to the day when SBC members, Beef Stud members, and indeed USF students and fans from all organizations, cheer side-by-side at all USF sporting events.

Not defending anyone, but here are some facts:

Beef Studs, in ASRC, asked for:

Food $0

Materials $10,268

Operating Expenses $0

Phone $0

Travel $1,930.00

with $732.48 required overhead that would be taken by USF budgets

Total $12,940.48

Beef Studs, in ASRC, were given:

Food 0

Materials $1,473

OE 0

Phone 0

Travel $780.00

Overhead $135.18

Total $2,388.18

No one ever had a problem with the Beef Studs traveling on A&S funds... it was that a few rules (that have always been broken for some reason) were broken.  For some odd reason, Senators never show up on time or at all for budget meetings and other important meetings.  Quorum, the issue at hand, is not met on many occasions.  It HAS been dealt with, its just a shame that someone had to go down because no one in the ENTIRE SENATE ever followed the rules until something was called into question.  Politicians go down because of technicalities, not corruption.  Student Government allocates $10.1+ million a year with few issues.  Just because one budget transfer went bad (and took care of itself politically and professionally) doesn't mean Student Government is running amuck, like the Tampa Trib and The Oracle assume.  Everyone should also consider that the actions of a president, or even a member of senate, don't usually reflect the actions or beliefs of the 400+ Student Government officers and employees.  The system took care of the issues, like it should have.  The negative press is warranted, but not on such a large scale for the small infractions that occurred.

Half that money in SG is wasted on stuff 90% of the students dont see/care about anyways. Might as well sponsor some people on an awesome trip to Auburn

Ever take a break in the MC?  Ever use the gym?  Ever go to homecoming?  Ever go to a concert?  Ever get 30 free prints a day?  Ever join an organization?  Ever think about who advocates for you in Tallahassee?  Ever wonder who sits in meetings for hours on end helping mold our university?  etc, etc, etc

It's all paid for with A&S fees allocated by the Student Government Senate per Florida State Statute 1009.24.  It's not a joke, nor does anyone in SG take it like a joke.  It would be nice if other students would AT LEAST stop reacting to SG like a negative organization thats against students.

A spirited defense of SG is needed right about now.  Nice work Mr. King.  When SG works, it works very well and on behalf of the students.  Looks like some strong leadership is needed right now, and that leadership to keep in mind these positions are about service.  Anything Athletics can do to help, please let us know.  A strong SG working with a strong athletic department can do more to create a great collegiate experience for students than any other combination.

And props to the Beef Studs for doing a great job at volleyball vs. UCF.  I'm sure you'll be at the UConn soccer game.  Of course the SBC kids have done a great job at games as well.  I hope to see both of you Sunday night/Monday morning in front of the Sun Dome box office.  It should be a great chance for both organizations to recruit as well.  If you're camped for football tickets, you're probably a big enough sports fan to be a member of at least one, if not both!

I'm very glad Athletics works with us at every turn.  Everything from the Our shirt campaign to student ticket issues, they have worked with us 100%.  A lot of priase should be given to the student athletic council, Ms. Latchford, and Mr. Morgan for their work with Athletics.
