Ckarification on a rule

Unsportsmanlike Conduct is a judgment call... the removal of helmet is usually penalized when it's done in a taunting way... it's possible the official saw the player was running back to the sideline and didn't feel it warranted a penalty.

Official rules do lend to different interpretations depending on the situation ...

not when grothe threw his helmet...the game was over at that point

The play I'm talking about, and replayed up there, is the game tying field goal ....

oh...i thought you were talking about the grothe pass in OT.

from what i can see on that video...it seems like there was no flag because the player didnt take his helmet off in a celebration type action.  he took his helmet off, held it by his side and ran off the field.  almost like the helmet was knocked a little loose during the play and he was just taking it off due to comfort reasons.

on a side note...you will usually only see a flag for helmet being removed if the player does it to play towards the crowd, insult another player, or get his mug on TV by shakin his head up and down, staying out on the field, etc.

its always up to the ref's interpation but usually as long as they arent trying to be an invididual you are ok

What was with the guy yelling "fake it! they'll never see it coming"? I'm pretty sure if they faked it, nobody would have been surprised.

Not too easy to get a game penalty when the game clock has expired.  Grothe could have taken off his jersey, pants, and pads and (other than indecent exposure and Leavitt kicking his butt) no game penalty would ensue.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
