TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida athletic department, in conjunction with the BIG EAST, have unveiled a challenging and entertaining 2007-08 men’s basketball schedule.

“Basketball fans in the Bay area will have an opportunity to see a host of outstanding teams and players,†said USF head coach Stan Heath. “We will find out a lot about our team early. I expect the challenges in the non-conference to prepare us and make us a better basketball team as we enter BIG EAST conference play.

“The BIG EAST is very strong again this year. Several teams will be ranked very high and there is always that surprise team that you don’t expect. Our fans will enjoy seeing several premier teams in Tampa and our team will be ready for the challenge.â€Â

The Bulls will play 13 non-conference games, including six at the Sun Dome and three in Daytona Beach as part of the inaugural Glenn Wilkes Classic before beginning the 18 game BIG EAST slate.

The BIG EAST schedule features 12 one-time opponents and three home-and-home opponents.

USF fans will want to circle the calendar for home dates against Connecticut (Feb. 16), Louisville (Jan. 23), Notre Dame (March 8th), Pittsburgh (Jan. 9), Rutgers (Jan. 2), St. John’s (Feb. 2), Seton Hall (Feb. 26), Syracuse (Feb. 13) and West Virginia (Jan. 20).

ESPN2 will broadcast the home contests with Rutgers and Pitt. Other television broadcasts will be announced in the coming weeks.  As part of the BIG EAST’s new agreements with its television partners, all 144 regular-season league games will be televised.

USF’s three home-and-home series will have the Bulls facing Rutgers, Seton Hall and Syracuse on the road as well. Additional road games will be played at Cincinnati, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence and Villanova.

The non-conference home schedule is highlighted by visits from UCF (Dec. 1), East Carolina (Nov. 24) and UAB (Dec. 8th).  The marquee game on the road prior to BIG EAST play will be at Wake Forest on Dec. 19.

Cleveland State will come to the Sun Dome for the season opener on Nov. 9 as part of the Glenn Wilkes Classic.  The Bulls will also have the home court advantage against St. Francis (Dec. 22) and Winston-Salem State (Dec. 29).

Fans won’t have to travel far if they want to see the Bulls in the Wilkes Classic.  USF will face Atlantic 10 member Rhode Island, in-state rival FAU and ACC member Florida State in consecutive days between Nov. 16-18.

How is the Rutgers game going to be televised on ESPN2 and not the Uconn game? Does that make sense to anyone?

Maybe they thought the RU game was the women's game.

When do students get back from the holidays? That, along with the bowl game, could be lead to an embarrasing national telecast...

If USF is doing good i'm sure the UConn game will be televised but they aren't going to decide what games to televise that late in the season before the season even begins. I'm surprised they know their schedule as far in advanced as they do anyway.

I can't wait for basketball season, I think USF will continue to improve. Stan Heath is a great coach, and Arkansas was dumb for letting him go. The hiring may not pay huge dividends this season as USF is still clearly one of the least talented Big East teams but they will take a step in the right directions and I say by 2010 they will be able to start making some tournament runs.

Jan. 2 is the Wednesday before school starts. Our attendance will be affected by this ,considering most of the people that go to the games live on campus.

Nice OOC schedule - Wake, FSU and UAB should all be excellent teams this year and URI and Richmond are always your typical well-coached and FAST A-10 teams.
