Bulls Tie Ole Miss 0-0 in 2OT

UNIVERSITY, Miss. – In her first game as the head coach of the University of South Florida women's soccer team, Denise Schilte-Brown led the Bulls to a scoreless double-overtime draw in University, Miss., Sunday afternoon.

"I'm proud of the ladies for playing 110 minutes in the first game of the season," said Coach Schilte-Brown. "Traveling away from home is always difficult, but the girls definitely took ownership of the field and performed as well as they could today."

Junior forward Lindsay Brauer led the Bulls offensively, taking two shots, one on goal, while sophomore midfielder Rachel Jakubowski had one shot on frame.

Sophomore goalkeeper Mallori Lofton-Malachi made three saves in her first start as a Bull, playing the entire contest.

The Rebels out shot the Bulls 12-3 and had six more corner kicks than USF.

The USF women's soccer program is now 97-94-19 and Schilte-Brown's career coaching record is 94-69-18 in nine seasons as a collegiate head coach.

Ole Miss, who was coming off a second-place finish in the 2006 SEC West, is now 0-0-2 this season, including a 1-1 tie with Miami on Friday. The Bulls play Miami Sept. 14 in Coral Gables.

The Bulls continue their seven-game road series next weekend by playing at Florida (Gainesville) on Sept. 7 and at Georgia (Athens) Sept. 9.

USF’s home opener is September 28 when the Bulls face off against the preseason No. 10 Connecticut Huskies at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for that game are $5 for adults, $3 for youth 16-and-under and $2 for groups of 10 or more and are available on www.GoUSFBulls.com or by calling 1-800-GoBulls.  Season tickets are also available.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
