(March 11, 2007) – The University of South Florida softball team lost to Fordham University, 3-1, in bronze bracket play on Sunday afternoon in the final day of the adidas Invitational held at the EC Moore Complex. Reliever Cristi Ecks (5-3) was charged the loss despite not giving up an earned run. In three innings, she gave up two hits and two runs while striking out three. With her strikeouts in the game, she surpassed Bree Spence’s 303 Ks for sixth place in the record books with 305 strikeouts. Kristen Gordon got the start and left the game when it was tied 1-1. In four innings, she gave up one run – a homer in the first inning – and struck out six. After the Bulls tied the game in the third inning off a sacrifice fly by JoJo Medina, Fordham (9-8) broke the stalemate in the sixth inning when USF gave up two runs on four errors and two hits, giving the Rams a 3-1 lead. USF (18-12) will look to get back on the winning track when it hosts the Spring Break Tournament Tuesday and Wednesday at the USF Softball Field. On Tuesday the Bulls will play LIU at 4 p.m. and Quinnipiac at 6 p.m. USF will conclude action on Wednesday playing Indiana at 4 p.m. and George Mason at 6 p.m.
