(March 10, 2007) – The University of South Florida softball team recorded its first-ever loss in 12 meetings to Jacksonville University, 3-2, to conclude pool play on Saturday afternoon in at the adidas Invitational held at the EC Moore Complex. With the loss, the Bulls advance to the bronze bracket and will face Northern Illinois at 6 p.m. on Saturday. If USF wins, then it would advance to play the winner of the Mercer-Fordham game. Bree Spence (3-4) got the start and gave up three runs – one was earned – on six hits in three innings. Freshman Kristen Gordon pitched three innings of scoreless relief with one hit and seven Ks. The Bulls (17-11) took the early 2-0 lead scoring a run in the first and second inning with two outs on the board each time. Kit Dunbar scored the first run of the game thanks to a JoJo Medina RBI single in the first inning. In the second Dunbar was on the other end of the scoring and drove in a run with a single. In the third inning the Dolphins (6-20) got their offense in motion and put together a two-out rally. With runners at second and third base, passed ball and a bunt single gave JU a 3-2 lead. USF tried to mount another two-out rally in the top of the seventh, getting the go-ahead run on from an error, but it came too late and JU pitcher Ashley Iveson (3-5) got the out for the win.
