Quevedo is getting the start -- as of now, he is our tuesday starter.

I lifted with him today and he seems confidant and ready to go.

Bulls Look To Avenge Feb. 20 Loss To Stetson On Tuesday Night

TAMPA, Fla. (March 5, 2007) – The University of South Florida baseball team will look to avenge the Feb. 20 9-4 loss to Stetson as the Bulls and Hatters face off on Tuesday, March 6 at Red McEwen Field. The Bulls and Hatters will meet for the 144th time in 41 years at 6 p.m. in Tampa.

The final contest of the three-game USF-Stetson series will be played in Tampa on April 10.

USF trails the all-time series with Stetson 74-69, and looks to break the Hatters' six-game win streak that dates back to May 17, 2005. USF and Stetson first met in 1966, USF's first season of baseball. The Hatters took that March 19 game 3-1 in DeLand. Stetson last beat USF earlier this season, 9-4, on Feb. 20, 2007 in Tampa. The last time the Bulls were victorious in the series was April 27, 2005, a 6-5 win.

The Bulls are 10-4 following a mid-week loss to Florida and dropping two-of-three with Central Michigan last weekend. USF is batting .336 this season, producing 118 runs from 161 hits. The Bulls have tallied four home runs, three of which came against CMU, and 30 doubles. On the mound the Green and Gold have notched 101 strikeouts and 66 walks, allowing 118 hits and 63 earned runs for a 4.54 ERA.

Stetson is 10-4 this season and on a one-game losing streak, dropping Monday’s game, 6-2, to No. 7 Nebraska. The Hatters have registered 135 hits this season, scoring 87 runs and 77 RBI. Stetson is batting .288 with five home runs, four triples and 28 doubles. The Stetson pitching staff owns a 3.36 ERA in 126.0 innings, allowing 105 hits and 47 earned runs. The Hatters have struck out 105 and walked 47 in 14 games.

Junior first baseman Brandin Daniel had another hot streak, hitting .467 in four games last week. Daniel was 7-for-15 at the plate with one home run – his second of the season - and two doubles, knocking in six RBI. His .800 slugging percentage was second on the team, behind the .929 clip posted by Joey Angelberger. The junior outfielder was 6-14 (.429) last week, punching two home runs and a double. He also had seven RBI and 13 total bases.

Freshman right-hander Matt Quevedo will be on the mound for the USF-Stetson game. Quevedo, who started last week’s Florida game, owns a 5.06 ERA with three strikeouts, two walks and three hits in 5.1 innings pitched.

Senior outfielder Shane Jordan leads the Hatters offensively this season, batting .417 in 13 games. His 20 hits and 17 runs scored leads Stetson, and he is second on the team with 12 RBI. Senior infielder Braedyn Pruitt has 14 RBI this season while batting .408 with 20 hits in 49 at bats. Pruitt has registered two home runs while Jordan has one, and both players have five doubles.

Freshman Justin Dechert owns a 2-0 record on the mound for Stetson, and his 0.96 ERA in 18.2 innings leads the Hatters. He has 14 strikeouts in five appearances, two of which were starts. Junior Corey Kluber (3.18, 3-0), senior Chris Ingoglia (3.24, 2-1) and sophomore Jake Hitchcock (3.29, 1-1), each own an ERA less than 4.0, and have at least one win this season.

Following the mid-week game with Stetson, the Bulls will host Michigan State and Quinnipiac this weekend, March 8-10. On Thursday, the Bulls and MSU Spartans take the field at 6 p.m., then host the Bobcats from Hamden, Conn., on Friday, March 9 at 6 p.m. USF, who will have played seven games in nine days, end the week with Michigan State on Saturday at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, Michigan State and Quinnipiac will play at noon at Red McEwen Field.
